Oxalis montana Family - Oxalidaceae - Wood Sorrel

Wood Sorrel is a low growing spring flowering wildflower of the woodland. Its heart shaped, clover-like leaves are a very dark green, the flowers are white or pink, veined with pink. It grows three to six inches tall in deep woods.

Wood Sorrel flowers close at night and usually remain closed on cloudy days. It tends to colonize favorable areas, growing with other early bloomers like Spring Beauty and Cut Leaved Toothwort.
