Wood Poppy is an early blooming woodland wildflower which graces the forest floor with is butter yellow blossoms. The two inch flowers are borne on a stem with two pinnately divided leaves directly under. Crushing the stem will reveal a yellowish juice.

The Celadine Poppy grows mostly in the rich woodlands of the Midwest, enjoying forested slopes and bluffs. It tends to form small colonies and is found in company with Dutchman’s breeches, Squirrel Corn, Spring Beauty and Toothwort.
The Wood Poppy grows from ten inches to about eighteen inches tall. The fruit will form after bloom has finished and will be a sort of football shaped green object. This spring blooming wildflower is a member of the Poppy family, joining Bloodroot in a chorus of color celebrating the arrival of spring.
