Trillium Nodding

Trillium cernuum
Family - Lilium - Lily

Nodding trillium is a spring blooming woodland member of the lily family. The white flower hangs below the three leaves and this is the origin of both the common and botanical names. Sometime the color of the flower is pink, but this is very rare.

This woodland wildflower is found in moist forestland. I haven’t seen it very much in our part of the state, not being nearly as common as its cousins the Red and Purple Trilliums.

The Nodding Trillium grows from six to about twenty four inches tall, the flower is about one inch long, or slightly longer. Here in southeastern Indiana the flower time is in early to mid April.
