Star Chickweed

Stellaria pubera Family - Caryphyllaceae - Pink

This very showy spring woodland wildflower blooms early - around mid April here in southeastern Indiana. The star-like white flowers appear in clusters atop an erect stem and brighten the early spring forest floor.

Star chickweed grows to about sixteen inches tall, though most I have seen averages between eight and ten. This wildflower tends to grow in clumps. The clumps can be quite numerous in a given area and the forest floor can seem almost snow covered when the Star Chickweed is in full bloom.
