This delphinium is a member of the vast buttercup family, so many of which make up
the spring flowering wildflower mix here in Indiana. The species name refers to the
fruit which has three horns.
The Dwarf Larkspur has a close resemblance to the Rocket Larkspur which inhabits many
peoples flower gardens. The larkspurs should be eliminated from fields of grazing
cattle, as they contain an alkaloid which is poisonous to grazing animals.
