Trail 3
Versailles State Park
1.5 miles, Easy

The trailhead for this delightful trail is on the main park road, to the east of the Nature Center. Cross the causeway over the lake and it is on the right. You may park in the Nature Center parking lot.

This trail mostly skirts Fallen Timber Creek and crosses it three times. In rainy weather it may be difficult or impossible to hike this trail because there are no bridges and stepping stone crossings tend to get out of place in the strong current. Plan on getting wet feet if the creek is up. But it is a pretty trail, well worth damp dogs.

It is fairly level along the full length, until the last crossing. Here it begins a gentle ascent until the junction of Trail 2. Here you must either turn around or return the way you came, or turn right on Trail 2. To return to the parking lot this way, turn right at the first junction, right again at the next. Descend the steps by the campground and turn right at the bottom. This brings you to the causeway and the parking lot is across the road.
