Cochran from Henry Papet along the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad Company's rail line. This line was completed in 1854, the town platted in 1856 and named after Mr. A.L. Osgood, chief engineer for the railroad company. A plank road, or puncheon, was built to connect Versailles and Napoleon. This formed Main Street. The road was converted into a stone road in 1898, twenty years after Osgood became an incorporated town. In 1914, Buckeye and Ripley Streets were paved with brick. This project was completed in 1915, the brick paving until the State Highway paved the street. Ripley Street remains brick, and it was refurbished in 1993. In 1961 Osgood became the site for the new Jac-Cen-Del (Jackson, Center, Delaware Townships) High School.Osgood is a quiet small town in southeastern Indiana. Located at the juncture of State Road 350 and US 421 Osgood is just minutes from Batesville and Lawrenceburg Indiana. Greensburg and the new Honda plant are also just a short distance away. The Ripley County Fairgrouds, which features a large Farmers Market and various events throughout the year. |
