Solar Garden Light

Solar Garden Light © 2008

Solar lights are a natural addition to the garden. They are environmentally friendly, available in a vast variety of styles and types and will provide accent, lighting, or character to just about any garden situation.

Ease of installation is another plus of solar garden lights. Most of the light units are pretty compact, with the solar cell, lights, rechargeable batteries and sensor all located within one attractive unit.

The basic operation of a solar garden light is fairly simple and relies on four basic parts: a solar cell, a battery, light bulb, and a light sensor. The solar cell is usually positioned at the top of the unit. Its job is to collect the energy from the sun and convert it into electricity. This electricity is then stored in a rechargable battery during the day. At night the light sensor detects lowering light levels as the sun goes down. When the light levels drop low enough, the sensor turns on the light bulb which will burn until the stored solar energy in the battery runs out and your garden turns dark.

You will find a number of different uses for the solar garden light. Some are meant only as accent lights others will provide sufficient illumination to light paths and steps. Others can be used to provide focal points after dark around fountains and statuary. Some solar lights can fuction as security lights. Whatever your need you will probably find a solar light to fill it.
