Solar Powered Garden Fountains - Bird Bath © 2008
Combine two garden features in one using birdbath fountain. These need to be placed in full sun to
operate, as the solar cell is usually mounted on the birdbath. Available in a variety of materials
including resin, copper, stone and wrought iron. The moving water of a bird bath fountain tends to
discourage mosquitoes from laying their eggs in them, so they don't attract the pests the way a
standard bird bath does. The sound of splashing water from the fountain tends to attract birds to
them.
Some of these fountains must be moved indoors during the winter, others have removable resevoirs and
which can be removed and the fountain can stay out. Most also have filters on the water intake, but
they should still be cleaned periodically to remove algea and debris which may accumulate.
