Copyright © © The author of this web site lives and gardens in southeastern Indiana. He has been vegetable gardening for over 30 years. As a boy he lived on a farm where his mother kept a large garden, and canned much of the food the family consumed in the winter months.
His grandfather, whom he spent much time with, also had a large garden. His grandparents depended on this garden for most of the food in their larder.
This grandfather also had a sizeable rose garden which he called his "beer garden". The author spent much time helping the old man care for this garden, mostly keeping it mowed for him as he got too old to handle the lawn mower.
The author's terrace garden in front of the house was inspired by this flower garden. Since the grandfather's nickname was "Abe" the terrace garden has been dubbed "Abe's Beer Garden". Top Of Page
