A chainsaw pruner is a great tool for homeowners who have a lot of trees. Oaks and other trees have a tendency to have low hanging limbs which need trimming on occassion. Some of these tools offer the versatility of being combination tools, so they have more than one use. You will find both electric and gas powered versions of these tools.

Electric chainsaw pruners are easy to use, without the hassel of having to keep two cycle gas on hand. They would be great for the occassional need for a chainsaw pruner. Corded pruners are limited by the length of your extension cord. So if you have a small yard with a lot of trees, one of these may be just what you need. Cordless chainsaw pruners offer freedom from the cord, but you will have less power and limited work time. These are ideal for small jobs out away from the home.

Gas powered chainsaw pruners may be a better choice if you need to use one of these tools a lot. They offer more power and repeated use in remote areas. They are also heavier than the electrics, so this may be a consideration.

Look for combination tools when you are seeking to purchase a chainsaw pruner. Some of these tools offer multiple uses as string trimmers, edgers and other lawn tools. The chainsaw on some models detaches for use as a light duty hand held chainsaw.
